This Moment

I find myself sitting alone in a quiet house
and thinking back to this night 5 years ago when I was ill, exhausted and terrified.
In the early hours of the next morning I was anesthetised and cut open ....
... and the most amazing person I ever met was pulled from my body
and placed in my husband's arms.

I became a Mother.
We became a Family.

"Making the decision to have a child - it's momentous.
It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body"
- Elizabeth Stone

  1. Lovely, just lovely. Babies are a gift and in my case, no matter what circumstances have happened.
I actually was a single mom before I met the love of my life. So I know what being scared when the baby's born and crying in your arms is like. But I chose to step up and grow up and I'm proud of myself for doing that.

  2. Aww, what a cutie! Children are blessings! I'm waiting for my little one to come and your post just made me smile. Thanks :)

  3. I love that quote. So true. A memorable moment indeed.

  4. Hands up! Another tear from me! x

  5. Oh goodness how apt is this! My step grandson was born last night by exactly the same method, so reading your blog this morning has special meaning to me. It's a little late, but a very happy birthday to your little one, I hope you all spent the day having lots of fun!

  6. That brought a lump to my throat! It's just an absolute miracle how life is formed and I wish I let that thought enter my head when the kids are playing up and I want to shout at them......I'm surer it would stop me getting cross 95% of the time.

  7. love this post Sarah... made me fill up a little. Hope your little/big boy had a lovely Birthday x

  8. Thanks to all the people who commented here and on my facebook feed - I'm sorry I made so many people cry (again!) :-/

My Boy had a very lovely birthday indeed and was tucked up in bed fast asleep by 18:30 :)

  9. Happy belated birthday to your boy and birth-day to you! I am only just catching up on blog posts. Glad to hear he had a lovely birthday. Jacinta x
