Festive Gift Guide Part 4: Scheepjes Gift-ables (& Giveaway)

As well as their ever-expanding range of yarns, Scheepjes have recently branched out into high-quality yarn-crafting accessories made from beautiful materials. A perk of being part of their Bloggers' Group, I was lucky enough to fondle all the new items on my recent visit to their HQ (there is a box of goodies under my tree that I am saving for the 25th, and which I'm really hoping contains some of these).

So for the latest instalment of the Festive Gift Guide (delayed due to a series of unfortunate events), I've picked my top four, which are all available from Wool Warehouse (affiliate links included throughout) for UK and International delivery, and from other stockists. There is also a giveaway, kindly sponsored by Scheepjes. Read on for details...

These gorgeous Maplewood yarn bowls come varnished or natural so you can decorate/finish them yourself. I heard that one of the Scheepjes team had painted a flower pattern on hers with oil - doesn't that sound lovely?

Typically, I wind my yarn into a centre-pull ball or use Scheepjes yarns with the 'easy-start' tab so I haven't felt a desperate need for a bowl to hold my yarn in one place as it doesn't move about much anyway. However, I have a couple of colourwork projects planned and this would be perfect for keeping the colours separate (using the little holes), plus they just look so darned pretty with a project in them - perfect for 'Instagramming'!

Scheepjes love to support independent artists and designers and they commissioned illustrator Ashley Percival to produce an image for the first in their new Limited Edition collection of accessories. (If you have YARN issue 2, there is a profile of the artist on p17.) The print features three sheep wearing sweaters and hats and is typical of Percival's work - he probably most well known for his owls in sweaters and on skateboards. The cards are only 50p each and would be a great accompaniment to gifts for knitters or crocheters! (I might frame one for my Cwtch wall.)

I hate winding yarn into balls, and so a swift is an absolutely essential piece of kit for me. It makes the process so much easier - my preference is for an umbrella swift, which is exactly what Scheepjes have produced (theirs are of a noticeably higher quality than my old one), with a smooth finish and an attractive choice of woods. The Swifts are available in Beech, Rosewood or a combination of the two and can either be screwed onto the edge of a table (pictured) or can come with a base. You can find all of the different options here

Finally, there is a Limited Edition mug featuring Ashely Percival's illustration, made by DEEZ Dutch - a local Etsy seller. (Remember my mug from the Bloggers' Day in Spring? That was from the same maker.) Coming in under £10 these collectable mugs would make a charming gift for crafty friends or family members.

If you are in the UK you should be able to get these goodies in time for Christmas if you order today using 1st class mail, and Wool Warehouse also offers a next day courier option if you want to be sure of it. International courier usually takes 3-5 days so you might just manage it!

Scheepjes have kindly offered the chance for one lucky reader to get a LIMITED EDITION MUG of their own. To be in with a chance to win the mug, all you have to do is to leave a comment on this post telling me which of these four items is your favourite. Include your Ravelry or Instagram name, or an alternative way to contact you if you are randomly selected on 23rd December. (The prize will be shipped to you after Christmas.)

  1. OMG That yarn bowl! I literally screamed out loud when Kirsten showed off hers during her last live video. I tried getting one earlier in the week but Wool Warehouse sold out before I could draw an excited breath. Hope your series of unfortunately events have settled xx (@thecalmnookcrafts on insta and TheCalmNook on rav)

  7. The Yarn Bowl is stunning - have been trying to get my other half to make one for me, on his lathe but the request seems to have fallen on deaf ears .... unless he's going to surprise me at Christmas. Loop60 on Ravelry

  11. I love the yarn bowl. I currently put my yarns into a little carpet bag to work out of. It does keep it clean but also, with nosey cats, it also keeps it safe!

  18. While I have a yarn bowl made for me by a local potter, my swift is a ugly and weak plastic object that is almost embarrassing to attach to the table when I use it to wind my yarn cakes. Those wooden swifts are elegant and strong looking -- love them!

  19. The swift looks beautiful, it would certainly make winding yarn less of a chore.
