Festive Gift Guide Part 3b: Wrist Ruler

The previous instalment of the Gift Guide included silver jewellery specifially designed for yarn lovers. Today's gift inspiration is more jewellery, but this time it's something which will appeal to all sorts of makers, and anyone who needs to measure small things on the go (sock knitters, I'm looking at you!). The UK distributor* has kindly sponsored this post in the form of a giveaway - read on for details and to find out how to order.

Leather Wrist Rulers in light and dark finish - find them here

The Wrist Ruler is a long wristband with engraved inch and centimetre measurements, which you can wrap around your wrist twice, and secure with a metal peg. Already popular in the US, they have just become available in the UK in time for gifting season. Unisex and coming in a range of finishes, I think they will appeal to many people.

The leather Wrist Ruler is manufactured in small batches in San Francisco and each comes with a unique number engraved on the inside. If you don't wear leather, that's no problem as a silicone alternative is also available. Leather Wrist Rulers retail at £19.99  and come in a lovely tin, while the silicone are £9.99 and are boxed with the fun tagline "for desperate measures" - find them both here.

Yellow silicone, dark leather, and light leather (mine) showing signs of wear!
Before recommending products I like to try them out, so I've been wearing a leather Wrist Ruler a few weeks. I've found it useful (when travelling, also as a photo prop etc) and I've had a surprising number of compliments from friends and random people in shops / caf├ęs etc. Before the trial, I was a little concerned that the leather might stretch, and render the ruler inaccurate, but with 43cm / 17" to wrap around, there is plenty spare and I can't see it stretching any time soon. The edges are showing a bit of wear which adds character and I'd say that unless you want very accurate tiny measurements (in mm), this will be sufficient for on-the-go measuring as well as being an attractive 'novelty' gift for a maker.

You can order Wrist Ruler gifts online, and if you'd also like to be in with the chance to have one to keep for yourself, simply leave a comment on this post telling me whether you'd prefer leather or silicone and leaving your Ravelry name, Instagram name, or an alternative way to contact you if your name is randomly selected on Friday 9th December 2016. Good luck!

*Sample supplied by the UK distributor, 2tech.co.uk who kindly sponsored the giveaway. All opinions are my own and completely honest. I only recommend products I'd love to receive myself.

  20. These are just brilliant, So often I with I had a handy tape measure. I even have an IKEA paper one folded up in my purse now and again. I'd love the leather one but if I don't get picked I'm putting the silicone one on my Christmas wish list, the kids are always wanting to know what I'd like and that is in their price range https://www.instagram.com/sumoftheirstories/
