Ways to wear ‘Spirit of Summer’ (& Materials list)

What better way to reveal my finished 'Spirit of Summer' shawl, than to show you just how versatile it is (simple + versatile = my favourite kind of project). The shawl measures approximately 150cm wide x 80 cm deep and these are just a few of the different ways you can wear it...

Shown on 'Polly', my UK 10/12 model
Made from two balls of Scheepjes* Spirit (yarn review here) this shawl weighs a mere 100g, so it's ideal for commuting to work or travelling for leisure - it'll easily squish into a small space if the temperature rises, but on chilly days (or when the air conditioner is blasting) you'll be thankful for it's snuggly-soft texture.  In fact, this is a great travel project too - you could realistically make it on the way somewhere and wear it on the way back!

Perfect for wearing, or crocheting, on a plane (Book: Things I Learned from Knitting)

If you would like to make one of these for yourself or a friend, I'll be posting the pattern next week. The list below includes everything you will need. (A couple of my friends have already been talking about adding a colourful border to theirs, which I think is a great idea. If you would like to improvise a border, you might like to pick up some extra colours too!)

Materials

  • 100g (2 balls) of Scheepjes Spirit in 'Jay' or your favourite colour - available from Deramores*, Wool Warehouse* and other Scheepjes stockists.
  • 4mm crochet hook.
  • If you crochet tightly, you might also like to use a 4.5mm hook for the starting chain, as this has a top-down construction.
  • A stitch marker or safety pin.

Gather your materials and pop back here next week to get the free pattern here - I've already posted the stitch tutorials (here) and the pattern is listed on Ravelry (here) so you can add it to your queue or favourite it while you wait.
