"Your life is made of two dates and a dash. Make the most of the dash." Such was the wisdom I found on Twitter this morning*. It struck a chord - when I read it I was feeling tired and uninspired - the day was due to be full of the mind-numbing chores that are a necessary part of running a home and family. Hardly making the most of the dash!
So instead of the scheduled tasks, I hopped in the car for a very-much-unscheduled 'Me Morning' at Nymans House and Gardens. Forgetting the laundry, ironing, and cleaning up after everyone, I enjoyed a few hours filled with colour, the most amazing fragrance and just the gentle sound of bees to keep me company.
When I had pre-schoolers we spent a lot of time outdoors, at places like this. In fair weather it's where we'd meet up with our friends - the children could run about in fresh air while us 'mums' had a coffee and a natter. With the children at school, and just a few hours between drop-off and pick-up to get everything else done, we only seem to visit during the holidays and I never go alone. I hadn't realised quite how much I missed it. Of course, I still had to come back to the mundane but it didn't seem so bad - and our house, while not very grand and with considerably less impressive wisteria, does at least have a roof and windows!
There are lots more pictures from Nymans on my camera roll, if you want to see some of them be sure to follow me on Instagram where you'll also find the official feed for the property: @NymansNT.
So tell me, did you do anything memorable today? Did you make the most of your Dash?

Nymans is absolutely gorgeous! What a fab way to spend the day (and way better than doing boring chores that will absolutely wait!).
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! :) (It would have been messy again by now anyway!)
DeleteLovely photos. I had had a rough day topped off with hailstorms that kept me inside, so I was so grateful to see your photos and experience the beauty and relaxation vicariously. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh dear Judy - I hope you managed to get plenty of crochet done while you were trapped inside! Glad you enjoyed the pictures, I wish I could have captured the smells too :D
DeleteGlorious photos - looks like a place I'll have to try to visit. I haven't been anywhere that pretty but I've been enjoying having a greenhouse for the first time, and seeing my seedlings grow. We are going to have SO MANY tomatoes! And patty pans, cucumbers, and I'm growing 'Cucamelons' and watermelons for the first time :)
ReplyDeleteMy crochet is going remarkably smoothly too - definitely making the most of the dash at the moment. Great quote, I'm going to try to remember it.
Oh it's certainly worth a visit Jacqui - I think you'd love it! Very exciting when things start growing, although I will admit that I had to google "cucamelons" - they look pretty awesome actually! Can't wait to see all the crochet! We need to get together... at Nymans :)
DeleteSounds and fabulous. Good for you! Love that quote as well. I like to think that being lucky enough not to have to work I often make the most of the dash. Sometimes we all need to switch on the "eff it" button and do something spontaneous.
ReplyDeleteOh yes!!!

ReplyDeleteMaking the most of the dash this week, by taking a much needed break from work. I've started and completed a little owl cushion kit that I had in my stash, as well as various other things. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds perfect! :)
Delete:-)
