It's Wednesday (again!) which means it's time for the second motif in the Last Dance on the Beach CAL. If you missed the first post, as one of the contributors to the CAL, I'll be posting a weekly summary of each new motif as it's launched. It will include a little about the person who contributed the square in Wink / Marinke's memory as well as providing the links you need to get started.
THE MOTIF:
This week we have an all-over star stitch which produces a lovely texture and reminds me of starfish as well as being in keeping with 'last dance under the stars' colourway. If you're a new crocheter, or haven't made a stitch like this before, you might like to check out the videos listed below.
THE DESIGNER:
This motif has been designed by Kirsten from Haak Maar Raak who was a good friend of Wink/Marinke's and attended many crochet events with her. I've had the pleasure of spending time with Kirsten too - she is full of life and has the biggest smile, and a quick sense of humour. I can totally understand why Wink liked her so much.
Kirsten is Dutch and lives in the Netherlands with her fiance and their cats, and she loves a good horror film. With a wonderful eye for colour and texture, you'll find lots of beautiful designs on her blog (where she has some lovely patterns - some free and some for sale). Kirsten has written about this week's design and has also provided some useful tips, find her post here.
I snapped this picture of Kirsten at her favourite stall in Groningen market a few weeks ago |
THE PATTERN:
- Download the pattern (in English and Dutch) here.
- Video links from from Esther aka 'It's all in a Nutshell can be found here: English R/H, English L/H, Dutch R/H and Dutch L/H.
- If you have an official CAL kits (or have made your own using other Scheepjes yarns) from Wool Warehouse*, Deramores* or other stockists, you can post your progress photos in the Scheepjes groups for International (English language) and Dutch customers, on Facebook.
- If you want to tag your photos on social media, use #lastdanceonthebeach and #scheepjescal2016 so we can find them!
---
*Affiliate. The huge success of the CAL means the kits are in short supply, but many of the colours are available individually so you might like to make up your own pack, substituting a few colours as necessary.
