Cwtch Speak Lesson 9: Seasonal Overwhelm

While the advertisers would have us believe christmas is full of magic and sparkle, I'm not feeling very sparkly today*. Yes, I'm willing to admit that the thing I refer to as 'Seasonal Overwhelm' is breathing down my neck and I don't like it one bit. Today I took some time to re-evaluate what actually needs to be done in the next three weeks (so much to organise before the holidays, and gifts to sort and pack), what else I want to get done, and how it can all happen. It's a start.

As you can see, I've also taken my own advice and found some solace in knitting - which happens to be a decidedly festive little thing, but in a good way! You'll get to see the rest of it next Tuesday by which time I'm hoping to have my shopping finished, the food ordered, and everything wrapped. Wish me luck!

(*As I like to keep this a mainly positive space, I have edited out a huge rant about the international news, the UK Chancellor and tampon tax, lots of school-related stuff, including the peer pressure of expecting everyone to fill a box with gender-specific plastic tat, plus various other 'stuff'. )

  1. Good luck with all your to-dos, I need to do the re-evaluating bit this evening, currently trying to keep all present ideas/what has been brought so far/food/Christamas diary in my head = stressing that I'm going to forget it all!

    1. I think that's a big part of the issue for me - there are so many things in my head that even when I do have it covered, I'm always thinking I may have forgotten something! >.<

  2. Christmas goes from "loads of time" to "aghhh" so quickly. I always try to get ready in good time so I can actually enjoy December, it rarely works! I've not even begun to think about food yet, don't even know whose coming to dinner!
I love that you removed the rant but left in a mention, I often reflect on how much I enjoy using my luxury products once a month!

  3. What a wise little yarn. You've said so much more by remaining positive (then cleverly referring to the omitted rant) and I'm right there with you about this unreasonable season. Ideally I'll have it all done by end November. In reality, I'll shift the end date to first weekend of December. I'm not a mean person but couldn't we all have a year off from this shopping and packing madness? A year when we could truly reflect on the Reason for the Season and maybe have the time and money to seek out the causes that need us more than the retail machine. Good post!

  5. Most wonderful time of the year?! Paaaahhhh! Don't make me laugh. It's a nightmare, isn't it? I have to be done 2 weeks earlier this year as we go away on the 11th. On the plus side: no cooking for me this time around! Having been brought up elsewhere I've always found it MENTAL over here. Maybe it was because I was younger and didn't have the worries an adult mother might have, but I'm sure it's a calmer in Brasil. We certainly don't buy stuff for every Tom, Dick and Harry as people seem to do here... Anyway, I'm sure we'll all get through it somehow - as long as there's wine somewhere nearby! ;)

  6. Urgh, definitely feeling the seasonal overwhelm! Seems to be worse than ever this year - what has happened? Finding list making and continuing to stitch regardless is helping. Here's to a bit of peace in the season. :) x
