FO Friday: Lowlands Bag

Earlier this week I finished the monochrome 'Lowlands' Bag project I've been working on. For anyone who missed the earlier posts, this was inspired by a patchwork rug I saw on my trip to Scheepjes HQ in the Netherlands this summer, and had been a rough sketch in my journal ever since.

After swatching to decide which stitch and needle size to use, I started with the photo of the rug, and the formulation of a knitting chart. Using just two colours (the rug had several) and a similar mix of small and large triangles I came up with two charts - one large and the smaller version I used here. The other is likely to be used for another project using this Mini Nooodle yarn*, as it was a lot of fun to work with and feels great - if you missed why it is better than other yarns which may look similar, check out this post - everything I heard about it is true!

I'm delighted with the bag - it fits a magazine / iPad, plus a small knitting project, so it's exactly what I'd have liked on the flight when my bigger bag had to be put in the overhead locker!

To give you a better idea of scale, Little Miss took this photo and I noticed that yet again I am wearing a black and white outfit in this and in the picture above (bottom left, you can see my trousers) while knitting, so I'm starting think monochrome really is infectious. Maybe I need to dye my hair black next time?

*Thanks to Scheepjes for providing me with the yarn and lovely retro handles for this project, which I really wanted to use after seeing them but which were not available from any UK stockists (yet!) UPDATE: Mini Nooodle is now available at Wool Warehouse (affiliate). I'm writing up the pattern for the bag and will publish it here for you next week. Have a great weekend!
