Whilst emptying drawers, I came across a whole collection of old notebooks and planners - some were significant notes from a life-changing seminar series, while others simply included old shopping lists and things to do, lists from when we moved, and my notes for Book Club. Reading them back was fascinating - I was reminded of things I did a decade ago and had totally forgotten. I found mementos of my hospital stay when Little Miss was born. It was a trip down memory lane and thoroughly enjoyable. Nowadays my personal lists are digital and deleted when complete, or on post-it notes. Only my knitting and blogging notes are permanent (I wrote about them here).
A few days later this video popped up in my Bloglovin' feed (although I can't for the life of me remember who shared it - I'll come back and link when I do):
My natural reservations about mixing everything up together in the same place (personal notes with quotes with shopping lists - argh!!!) has been put aside for now - after all I enjoyed looking back at all of that - and for July* I'm giving it a go, helped along by this book on Journaling which I borrowed on my Kindle and which got me over writing on the first pages of a brand new notebook. I'll let you know how it goes.
Do you keep any record or journal? What do you use?

*1st July also sees a new month of the Fitalong (#cftcfitalong) and I'm joining in with Fat Mum Slim's "Photo a day" on Instagram.
I use a daily planner to keep as a positive journal- i write all the good things from that day and use it to look over when i need a pick me up.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea. I'm definitely going to include some positives/gratitude too :D
DeleteI'm obsessed with journaling, but I don't actually journal. I love learning about methods and materials. I tried to have a bullet journal before but I couldn't get into the habit of writing everything down. There is an excellent bullet journal group on Facebook if you are interested.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting! I was like that before I started knitting - I joined Ravelry 2 years before I picked up some needles!
DeleteThanks for the FB tip - I've found a few different pages etc :D
It was that video on bullet journalling that led me back to your midori post and then to molsmum on Etsy... I've been loosely following the system for a couple of months. Mixed results but that's mainly when I forget to look in the journal, lol. It's also led me to be more creative in my notes again :) xxx
ReplyDeleteHow funny! :D
DeleteI used to have a Coach planner that I was very good about using for college. Don't do that anymore. I use Google calendar and we have a white board one in our kitchen to help us keep track. I'm too anal about my penmanship to keep a diary. I still have two from middle and maybe high school. Hilarious to read.
ReplyDeleteI used to be like that about having everything just so, but there's a great quote in that book I linked which says "a Done something is better than a perfect nothing" and I've written that (in scruffy writing) right on the very first page of my journal for that reason.
DeleteI bet it's great reading those back! I kept diaries as a teen but unfortunately there was a fire at the place they were stored while I was away at Uni and my personal things got destroyed which is a shame.
I keep a diary, have done the last many years. I write in it with a fountain pen. I really like it.
ReplyDeleteI have been ill for a long time (depression and anxiety), and it has been very important for me to have a diary to write down my troubles in. The fountain pen just gives it that extra thing. I always enjoy picking it up to write something :)
I've started trying this Sarah, thank you.
