Imagine you were knitting something and you really liked it. Before you cast on, you knew you didn't really have enough yarn, but you started anyway, envisioning short sleeves. Yet as it neared completion, you wanted to finish it properly. So you looked for the same dye lot, but couldn't find any more (you've had it a while) and you ordered an extra ball you need to make the longer sleeves in the hopes that it would match... but it's not quite the same colour.
Would you knit the second sleeve from the new ball and hope it wasn't too obvious...? Or how about knitting the patterned part of both in the original yarn but the borders in the new (different) colour....? Would anyone really notice...?

I need your words of wisdom.
What about ripping a few rows back on the sleeves, then starting with the new color and alternating the old yarn till it runs out, so the change is more gradually?
ReplyDeleteClever clogs!!! That's a good idea! :D
DeleteThat's exactly what I was going to suggest. It's the only method I know of lovely.

No-one will notice :-)
ReplyDeleteHee hee - that's what I was thinking/hoping.
DeleteIf you can alternate row by row it should be close enough to blend. That's what I'd try. Or if you're just a tiny bit short, I'd do the button band/cuffs in the mismatched yarn, noone'll notice that I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem with my Owl Sweater. I went with short sleeves and will be making another one with long sleeves. But in your case I would alternate the yarns as the person above said.
ReplyDeleteI thought of that too, but I want to wear it at the weekend!!! :D I think alternating it is the best option.
Deletewhen I start a knitwork and know in advance I'll need two or even three different dye lots, I knit in the body and/or the sleeves in stripes. If the difference between the lots are huge ... than this makes it looks like it was meant to be knitted that way; and if the difference is bearely noticed, then I'm the lucky one!
ReplyDeleteCant wait to see!!
ReplyDeleteStripes? It seems everyone above has a similar idea, yeah?
