I am having one of THOSE weeks - there are several "half something" projects on the needles (more details in tomorrow's WIPs and Books post) and yet I'm STILL looking at other patterns! (I love this one, and how about this one, or this chunky version of the last shawl I made?)
Laying awake in the early hours of this morning I concluded the main problem is that I want to be knitting warm snuggly things but the stash mostly consists of lovely single skeins of 4 ply/sock yarn. There is NO more money in the "Sarah" pot this month after the unexpected tattoo and then filling the car with the wrong fuel last week, all of which ended up costing a small fortune (and a BIG black mark against my name with D) and it's just a few weeks before Christmas *sigh*
So...... do I finish a half-something that's languishing in the WIP bag, or look for something new and exciting to cast on in 4 ply? What would you do? Share your words of wisdom (or single skein 4 ply patterns) folks, please!
I'm having a similar problem. I have solved it by casting on an aran weight cowl that I had the yarn for in order to make a Christmas present. Two birds, one stone! That doesn't help you of course, but I think 22 Clouds would look ok in sock weight just done at a looser gauge.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great solution and you know, I am so glad you said about 22 Little Clouds because I was just planning to knit up a little swatch with sock yarn and see how it looks. I think it just might be ok too. :)
DeleteCouldn't you find something small in your WIP bag while you find an exciting pattern to craft up with your 4ply wool :)
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing your photo on instagram about the wrong fuel, its mistake that can be made...hope your car is ok!
It's a bit smelly Hazel, as they couldn't get every drop of diesel out but thankfully I realised before I switched on the engine so once it's been filled up a few more times it'll be back to normal x
DeleteWhen I feel like that I just want chunky quick projects because I will change my mind so quickly. I am just about to make some mittens in 4ply and try to make my own pattern! Scary monkeys. The other thing for 4ply is boot toppers. Make like leg warmers but just use the top part of a nice sock pattern so you get the look off long socks without taking up too much room inside your boots :)

Great ideas - thanks! Good luck with the mitt pattern - I'm sure it'll be fab. xxx
DeleteKnow the feeling of having lots on the hook/needles and still looking at Ravelry....that is my life....and I may have just ordered some more yarn for two more 'now' projects....oooppps!
ReplyDeleteHahahaa - Faith you always make me smile :D
DeleteOh I have lots of half something's! I am totally loving that expression Sarah really made me smile.
ReplyDeleteOh no on filling car with wrong fuel I seriously thought I had done that at 8 this morning half a sleep but realised I was safe hope your car will be ok.
He he - I think "half-somethings" might catch on!!! xxx
DeleteOh that little buds jacket... Oh dear, I think half-itis might be catching!
ReplyDeleteI would say to press on with some of the WIPs, or unravel any that are really cheesing you off. By finishing some languishing projects you'll get a heightened sense of satisfaction before moving onto something new.
Half-itis :D
DeleteYou are so sensible!!!!! Thanks for your advice (I may not heed it, but thanks !!!) That jacket is completely gorgeous, isn't it!!!
x
Oh no! Wrong fuel? Ouchie!
ReplyDeleteI'd say finish a WIP and then CO a new project. That cartoon had me crackin' up b/c it's so true.
Me too - I love Natalie Dee (but you probably already noticed that!)
Deletexx
Finish the half thingamy's...then you get that FO happy squueeeeeeeeness!!
ReplyDeleteOf course in reality, just cast on something else. Or in my case, ignore the half made wrist warmers, the skein that needs winding for a shawl or the other wrist warmers you need to make (all before mid December) and spend hours looking at a new project, accidentally buy yarn for it (it was a justified bargain) and happily pretend your days have 48 hours in them :-D
I love you Nyree :D

Hold it double!
ReplyDeleteI thought of that!!!!! Sadly it would result in clown barf as they are mostly different mixed colours!
DeleteOh no! I always want to knit something I don't have the yarn for, what is that all about???!!! :O)
ReplyDeletekeep on churning out the socks maybe? ;OP
This made me giggle! Sometimes there is nothing for it but to CO something new.I have 3 WIP's at the moment but 22 clouds is definitely calling very loudly! Try it in sock weight or try 22.5 degrees by Martina which uses sock weight.:-D
ReplyDeleteUmm I was going to suggest the same as Tink Edwards. No other inspiration I'm afraid.
