It's been a few weeks since my last Year of Projects post, mainly because there hasn't been much progress with either my list or my stash busting but I feel it's time to come clean and post an update anyway - maybe it'll get me back on track!
I had grand plans for the weekend after Little Miss asked me for some "heart mittens" on Friday - I was planning to use some stash yarn and got as far as finding a possible heart chart to incorporate.... but then I came across a Hello Kitty Hat pattern and knew I had to make one immediately... and I needed more yarn to make it. It's finished and she loves it, but I'll save the 'ta-dah' and details for my post on Friday.

So the mittens are still on my mind this week, and I've also selected another pattern for my list which will be a toy for My Boy - Tawny Owl by Ella Austin. He's 6 so it's something to put on his book shelf rather than something to play with and this seemed a perfect option, neither too girly or baby-ish for him.
As the yarn requirement is quite small, and I also have lots of filling, I think this should be a project entirely from stash. The pattern looks very well written and easy to follow and I'm looking forward to getting started on it, despite my limited experience with stranded colourwork. My first attempt was also an Ella Austin pattern. Unfortunately Betty/Bertie Bunny is only a few hours away from being finished, so I really should finish that first.
I would need many more hours in the day to get through all the things I want to make at the moment - I'm having to learn to be patient. It's not easy.

I know the feeling Sarah, Ive been knitting toys and blankets for my imenent arrival. Start crochet course Wednesday cant wait. The hello kitty hat and toys are lovely.
ReplyDeleteOh crochet is lovely, and it works up so quickly in comparison to knitting - that'll be fun! I hope that all is well with you xxxx
DeleteCan't wait to see the hello kitty hat, I bet it will be so cute ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm tempted to make another one... for ME! :)
Deletethis comment comes from what (i imagine) i'm reading between the lines, and i apologise if i'm seeing things that aren't there..!
ReplyDeleteawww... don't be so hard on yourself! please do remind yourself why you're doing this in the first place, and perhaps you could ignore all plans, "shoulds" and suchlike for a while -- letting creativity, spontaneity and playfulness lead the way instead? be kind to your creative self and allow her all the freedom she needs and wants <3 :)
You are very astute and very wise - thank you x
DeleteAww the hello kitty hat is so cute! And I love the owl, though if I was 6 I would definitely be playing with it rather than leaving it on my bookshelf :P
ReplyDeleteWell he's more interested in gadgets or things with wheels - but he does like snuggling up to something in bed. Currently a very well loved teddy and a little hedgehog so we'll see if it's good enough to take up residence with them.
DeleteI love the owl and can totally see why you wish to make him. Looking forward to seeing the hat! Thanks ever so much for your great idea of napkin rings. It is so inspired and I am busy bringing the idea to life. THANKS :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful I can't wait to see!!!!! :)
DeleteI love how the fox and owl are buddy buddy like! The mitts pattern is cute. When I had test-knitted my first, Fair Isle hat, I learned from the designer to always stretch out the round after it's done. That was such a smart tip b/c my floats came out wonderful.
ReplyDeleteGreat tip - thanks for that :) xxxxx
DeleteOooh good luck with the colourwork project, can't wait to see that, and the hello kitty hat[s]...I once made a paper mache owl for my grandfather....and I see owls everywhere now, must consider doing one! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI so know the patience thing....a million and one things I want to do, and only time to do one thing.
ReplyDeleteLove the owl and the fox....great project.
The owl looks like a cool project for a 6 year old boy, and it should definitely use up some stash.
ReplyDeleteI am so into wearing silly hats, I'd love one for myself...can't wait to see the fo..
