Wednesday's WIPs and books (or Knitting, Reading & Driving)

With the return to school and pre-school and all the other term-time after-school activities (football, ballet, swimming, multi-sports, forest club and karate), not to mention birthday parties each weekend, I've rapidly morphed into the frazzled mum/taxi cliché, but do I have something wonderful to do it in....
Do you remember I was obsessing about PT Cruisers? Well D not only bought me exactly the one I wanted, but he managed to keep it a surprise for a WHOLE WEEK until it was delivered from the other side of the country, all the while saying he didn't think he'd ever be able to find the later model in red and with automatic transmission. He is generally useless at surprises so this was doubly special and I love it! It's perfectly round and shiny and retro-looking. It's such a shame that Chrysler stopped producing them in 2010, at the time when other manufacturers were reviving retro styled vehicles. But I digress...

You may have noticed a lack of blogging, and that's because there has not been very much crafting...
KNITTING: Nuvem by Martina Behm
YARN: Drops Lace - 123.5g (988m) knit so far!

When I've eventually sat down of an evening, on the occasions I've not been too tired to knit, it's Nuvem that has kept my hands busy. There is still a long way to go with this simple, relaxing knit - the rest of this second skein. The increase for the (frilly) edge needs to happen when 40g remain by which point the remaining rounds will be in excess of 2,000 stitches - although it already feels like there are that many!

Last night I finished a book called Magus of Stonewylde by Kit Berry. I saw it mentioned on a friend's facebook wall, and before I knew it was reading it on my Kindle. It's the story of a young city girl moving into a secluded Pagan community, and of magic and nature. It is one of those books that I really feel like I shouldn't have enjoyed as much as I did (it's predictable and used the word "belligerent" far too much), but as soon as it was finished, I bought the next in the series and carried on. I'm also trudging on with the book club book I've been "reading" for weeks.

So that's it from me. There are more WIPs at Tami's and, later, WIPs and books at Ginny's blogs.  Oh and don't forget that the ticket giveaways for Glasgow and Birmingham craft shows are still running if you are able to make it to those places on the relevant dates.

I am definitely experiencing the frazzled Mum thing this week and I had been fooling myself into thinking things would be easier with my son back in school - ha!

  7. Oh, I always loved these cars, too! But never knew they were also made in red - this is just too gorgeous. (And way more practical than my dream car - a MGB coupé in dark blue...)
    Congrats!!! :)

  8. What a fun car! I'm impressed by the size of your project! I've been enjoying some quick in-between-big-project projects lately. I found you through the link up! This week I'm sharing toddler leg warmers and a quick mama scarf.

  9. We had a PT Cruiser for 10 years. Great "car" (really it's classified as a truck in the US) with fantastic amounts of trunk space. The only problem it had was its abysmally HUGE turning radius. Enjoy your new ride!!

  12. Great car.....makes ferrying far more bearable I should think......I spend around two hours sat in my car for school runs and so know what it means to like your car.

I feel like I've not been doing much knitting, but I think it's down to the slow speed of something coming off the needles for me, I am far quicker at crochet, I'm hoping the jumper I'm making will be ready for the cooler autumn, as I'm not sure I'll use it so much in winter.....better crack on.

    Enjoy driving!

  14. Yippee! You've got a new car! I love PT Cruisers, too--that retro vibe is a good one, isn't it?

2000 stitches...oh. my. The yarn looks heavenly, as does the shawl itself. Wishing you Godspeed on all those stitches.

I'm going to look for Magus of Stonewylde. City girl moves to a secluded pagan community and encounters magic and nature--I like that premise :-)

  17. I think that knitting project is the kind of thing I'll never ever have enough patience for. It just won't happen.
Lovely new car - but did you get that tattoo yet? ;)
I really want another one, but it's hubby's turn first, and he's having a hard time making up his mind. :)

  18. Nice car and thumbs up for your hubbies for keeping it a secret! Mine isn't a star at surprises either (I often find out what he is up to). The Nuvem is coming along nicely, looks very soft too. Can't wait to see what project will follow after it is finished.
