I'm not being negative...

My second sock is well on track AND the stripes match *grin*
I have yet to bind off the first one as I was initially concerned that they may not be the same, or that I'd run out of yarn before finishing the second, so I put it on a spare pair of DPNs and hung it on the wall. Which seemed like a perfectly reasonable thing to do at the time (!?)

These socks are a doddle so far, although on Monday I had to rip back to the pre-Sherlock-finalé-knitting after discovering a hole where there shouldn't have been one - this had obviously occurred during the "will-he-won't-he-jump" excitement.

Thank you for all the lovely sock comments and questions here and on the Facebook page - when they are done I'll post all the particulars of the yarn, pattern, and tutes that were useful for a sock knitting virgin.  I'm hoping to get them finished before Friday's post. You will have noticed that it's now possible for me to reply to your comments so if you leave a question or comment, please check back for a response as I'm aiming to reply to everyone within 24 hours.

For the observant amongst you who noticed there was no One a Day update yesterday, this was because it has been NONE a Day this week. The socks and a little item I made yesterday are the only things I've worked on, but you can see more Works in Progress over at Tami's

Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday
xxxx

  1. Loving the socks!! Knitting is definately one of the things I want to learn this year. Well, relearn as I used to knit as a child, but then stopped. I tried again a few years ago, but just couldnt do it, so taught myself to crochet instead. But I'd love to knit some funky socks!!! xx

    1. Thanks. I definitely think it's easier to pick up one of these crafts when you can already do the other - I'm sure you'll be fine this time. Sock knitting (this pattern, at least) is surprisingly easy - you should give it a go! :)

  2. Socks are looking awesome :) Nice job on matching the stripes - I don't bother but then I love slightly odd socks (check out what I've got on Friday for a demonstration of this point!)

    1. Thanks. If the yarn was more random, I may not have matched the stripes, but as they are so very definite, I didn't think I'd be satisfied with them mis-matched. I'm planning on wearing them with shoes which will show them off though, rather than inside boots etc.

  3. Your socks are looking awesome!! Matching stripes too, blooming brilliant. People strive for years to make socks as good as your first pair. Look forward to the final ta-dah.

  4. Love the socks, and they match, well done. I set out to get mine to match, but they never do - how do you do it?

    1. Well it was a bit of judgement and a lot of luck as I'd worked backwards from the first colour change to guess how much I needed for the cast on, fully expecting I may need to do it a few times, but it was right! I was a bit shocked actually :)

  7. Those socks are fab! I get laughed at for wanting the stripes to match so I'm glad I'm not the only one ;) Oooh I was knitting during Sherlock and ended up going wrong while watching the end-I should learn, no knitting when watching Sherlock!

    1. Sherlock should have one of those warnings before it starts, like they do with epilepsy, but for knitting mistakes :)

    1. Yeah, they were on my list and I gave myself until the end of Feb to do it, so thought I'd best just get on with it!!

  12. The only time I can remember hanging socks on something was after someone in the group who'd had one too many thought it was a good idea to toss a sock up on antlers at Friday's....lol, long long ago mind you. Meanwhile I think having it there to look at is a good idea to see how you're coming on the one you're currently working on and to inspire you to continue.

  14. I lol'd at hanging your socks on the wall. But after I stopped laughing I realized.... it IS pretty reasonable. They look great btw! I only bother to match stripes once in a blue moon, but I do love the way it turns out.

  15. They're coming along really nice! Even just with your picture I feel like I wish I could reach through my computer screen and feel the soft goodness of whatever yarn you're using :)

    1. I just read the comments and there was a reply option so I'm not sure if there is a setting for it or whether it hasn't been rolled out to everyone yet, but might be worth checking your settings :)

  27. Thank you all so much for your lovely comments - they are all appreciated and I don't have the time today to reply to every single one of you who complimented them. Re the colours, check out the next post as I feel the "negative" photo may have mislead *oops*

Hope to see you back tomorrow for the reveal - that's IF they are finished by then!

  28. Knitting up the second sock can be like old hat yeah after the first? I think the next time I knit up a sock I have to do a pattern of another for some variation or something quick in-between to rev myself up for the other part of the pair.
    Great stripes and fun colorway.

  29. Your socks are looking great. Been there with the show excitement knitting and consequently have screwed up what I'm working on. Then your faced with the dilemma of should you or shouldn't you go back and fix it. Sorry this is late. I'm only now catching up on my posting.
