My second sock is well on track AND the stripes match *grin*
I have yet to bind off the first one as I was initially concerned that they may not be the same, or that I'd run out of yarn before finishing the second, so I put it on a spare pair of DPNs and hung it on the wall. Which seemed like a perfectly reasonable thing to do at the time (!?)
These socks are a doddle so far, although on Monday I had to rip back to the pre-Sherlock-finalé-knitting after discovering a hole where there shouldn't have been one - this had obviously occurred during the "will-he-won't-he-jump" excitement.
Thank you for all the lovely sock comments and questions here and on the Facebook page - when they are done I'll post all the particulars of the yarn, pattern, and tutes that were useful for a sock knitting virgin. I'm hoping to get them finished before Friday's post. You will have noticed that it's now possible for me to reply to your comments so if you leave a question or comment, please check back for a response as I'm aiming to reply to everyone within 24 hours.
For the observant amongst you who noticed there was no One a Day update yesterday, this was because it has been NONE a Day this week. The socks and a little item I made yesterday are the only things I've worked on, but you can see more Works in Progress over at Tami's.
Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday

Loving the socks!! Knitting is definately one of the things I want to learn this year. Well, relearn as I used to knit as a child, but then stopped. I tried again a few years ago, but just couldnt do it, so taught myself to crochet instead. But I'd love to knit some funky socks!!! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks. I definitely think it's easier to pick up one of these crafts when you can already do the other - I'm sure you'll be fine this time. Sock knitting (this pattern, at least) is surprisingly easy - you should give it a go! :)
DeleteSocks are looking awesome :) Nice job on matching the stripes - I don't bother but then I love slightly odd socks (check out what I've got on Friday for a demonstration of this point!)
ReplyDeleteThanks. If the yarn was more random, I may not have matched the stripes, but as they are so very definite, I didn't think I'd be satisfied with them mis-matched. I'm planning on wearing them with shoes which will show them off though, rather than inside boots etc.
DeleteYour socks are looking awesome!! Matching stripes too, blooming brilliant. People strive for years to make socks as good as your first pair. Look forward to the final ta-dah.

Thank you my lovely. I'm hoping to turn the second heel tonight and then I can crack on with the straight bit when I'm out and about tomorrow for a Friday reveal *crosses fingers*
DeleteLove the socks, and they match, well done. I set out to get mine to match, but they never do - how do you do it?
ReplyDeleteWell it was a bit of judgement and a lot of luck as I'd worked backwards from the first colour change to guess how much I needed for the cast on, fully expecting I may need to do it a few times, but it was right! I was a bit shocked actually :)
DeleteThe socks are looking good! Love the colours!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan :)
DeleteThe socks are lovely. I think you will be very happy with them.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I hope so - but I can't find any perspex clogs to wear them with which is a shame!
DeleteThose socks are fab! I get laughed at for wanting the stripes to match so I'm glad I'm not the only one ;) Oooh I was knitting during Sherlock and ended up going wrong while watching the end-I should learn, no knitting when watching Sherlock!
ReplyDeleteSherlock should have one of those warnings before it starts, like they do with epilepsy, but for knitting mistakes :)
DeleteYour socks are fantastic! I love how you took the time to make them match. I almost never do that.
ReplyDeleteKaren, the first pair have to be right, or I won't want to make any more :D
DeleteThose are going to be some fabulous socks! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you x
DeleteWow! Matching stripes! That's an accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteThanks Stacey :)
DeleteLove your socks! Socks are on my 2012 list of things to learn....soon I hope!
ReplyDeleteYeah, they were on my list and I gave myself until the end of Feb to do it, so thought I'd best just get on with it!!
DeleteThe only time I can remember hanging socks on something was after someone in the group who'd had one too many thought it was a good idea to toss a sock up on antlers at Friday's....lol, long long ago mind you. Meanwhile I think having it there to look at is a good idea to see how you're coming on the one you're currently working on and to inspire you to continue.
ReplyDeleteOh, now that sounds like a fun night!!! It is a motivator that's for sure, I can't wait to wear them. :)
DeleteAww, sorry to hear about the none a day. But you have my permission to take as many weeks off as you need!
ReplyDeletePhew, thanks Marie :D
DeleteI lol'd at hanging your socks on the wall. But after I stopped laughing I realized.... it IS pretty reasonable. They look great btw! I only bother to match stripes once in a blue moon, but I do love the way it turns out.
ReplyDeleteThey're coming along really nice! Even just with your picture I feel like I wish I could reach through my computer screen and feel the soft goodness of whatever yarn you're using :)
ReplyDeleteI love the colors. It's awesome that the stripes match!
ReplyDeleteI think the socks look great!! And awesome job getting the stripes to match. I've tried very hard with that and come. . . well, not as close as you got with yours. Can't wait to see these on a Friday! :)
ReplyDeleteYour socks are great, I love that you got them to match. How did you get replies on your comments? I want to be able to reply *sulks*
ReplyDeleteI just read the comments and there was a reply option so I'm not sure if there is a setting for it or whether it hasn't been rolled out to everyone yet, but might be worth checking your settings :)
Deleteoooh pretty socks, i have yet to master socks to be honest - they scare me a little, I must get past that. Hope you have a great matching sock Wednesday xxx
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty socks! Now that I've started to work with DPNs I can't wait to get more comfortable with them and finally start socks!
ReplyDeletePretty socks. I too watched Sherlock and had to down my crochet hook as the excitement was too distracting! I live reading ur blog and nominated u for liebster blog award. Pop by all4meggymoo to read the details. X
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Shelley, I have accepted it on today's (Thursday) post. It's really nice of you.
Deletex
The socks look fantastic, I love the matching stripes! Sherlock was great. :D
ReplyDeleteYour socks are looking fantastic so far, and its great to see you are getting your stripes to match :)
ReplyDeleteI love your blog - what a fun read. The socks look lovely as well - very pretty colours. We're way behind on Sherlock here in Canada but I'll be warned for the episode viewing ;)
ReplyDeleteOh - you have some Sherlock fun to look forward to then!!!! Lucky you! :)
DeleteOhh I love them... especially the colours!!!
ReplyDeleteSock's look awesome!! you have done yet another cracking Job :D xx
ReplyDeleteThank you all so much for your lovely comments - they are all appreciated and I don't have the time today to reply to every single one of you who complimented them. Re the colours, check out the next post as I feel the "negative" photo may have mislead *oops*
ReplyDeleteHope to see you back tomorrow for the reveal - that's IF they are finished by then!
Knitting up the second sock can be like old hat yeah after the first? I think the next time I knit up a sock I have to do a pattern of another for some variation or something quick in-between to rev myself up for the other part of the pair.
ReplyDeleteGreat stripes and fun colorway.
Your socks are looking great. Been there with the show excitement knitting and consequently have screwed up what I'm working on. Then your faced with the dilemma of should you or shouldn't you go back and fix it. Sorry this is late. I'm only now catching up on my posting.
