It's been a while since I joined in with Isil's Book Sharing Monday, but Grandma (MIL) bought the kids a new version of one of my very favourite Christmas books yesterday - not sure who was more excited about it, to be honest. The book is 'Twas the Night Before Christmas (ISBN 978-1-4095-3285-9).
I've had a well-loved copy of this book for many years, but this is the Usborne NOISY Book version with modern illustrations by John Joven and six different musical accompaniment buttons including Jingle Bells. For this reason, the kids are far more interested in it than they usually are in my old classic copy.

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In the hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.
Although I'd personally prefer the more traditional copy for myself, I love that this makes the rhyming story more accessible for the little ones, and with its large bold text, My Boy is motivated to join in with the reading too. It's a fairly long story but the addition of the music, and getting the children to press the buttons at the appropriate times, means it keeps their attention and interest.
I have found some really lovely books for their stockings, so I'm sure there will be more Book Sharing from us in the coming months. In the meantime, here's a lovely idea from The Green Dragonfly for a book advent calendar - I found it on Pinterest.
Definitely going to plan for that next year!
We had grand plans to do the book advent calendar this year ... slight technical hitch though, because the box of Christmas books has vanished since last year! I remember loving ''twas the night before Christmas' as a child, and can still remember much of it now, my children, like yours, are less keen on the classic version.
ReplyDeleteThe book advent calendar seems like such a cute idea! My favorite book as a kid was How the Grinch Stole Christmas. My dad would always read it to me along with the cartoon on Christmas Eve!
ReplyDeleteOh, and cute wrapping paper too! :)
I love the book advent calendar idea!!
ReplyDeleteThink I will also be doing it next year, thanks for the link to it
