WIPs, a book and a TINY ta-dah!

Happy Wednesday (again!), everyone. I have much to share today so I'll dive straight in!

Two of the most stunning yarns arrived from Nimu last week to use for the Stripe Study Shawl. I got as far as knitting the first contrast stripe but I'm going to rip it out and will probably get something else for the main colour at the Knitting & Stitching show this weekend as it's far too busy. It needs a plain solid colour - maybe grey? I'm not sold on the red (I don't really 'do' red) and also not wholly convinced about garter stitch - it looks like it's the wrong way around.
So it may yet become something else entirely! Either way, I'm in love with Isel (Iridium) - the bluey one.

See yesterday's post for
more on the 'puff progress
My detailed hexipuff update was posted yesterday - they are coming along very nicely and I managed a few more last night. This is my One a Day project but I'm trying to get more than that done while I'm not knitting anything else.

I have some crochet plans afoot and have made a few little trial blocks this week, but nothing to post about those yet because I'm being side-tracked yet again. After making those tiny little bunnies and deciding small can be incredibly satisfying as well as cute, I was delighted get a review copy of a really lovely book featuring 25 miniature projects. The projects have been compiled from a number of contributors using various media and include boats made from nutshells, fabric buttons,  spool dolls, felt monster babies and tiny little greeting cards.

I want to make so many of them and I wasn't sure what to start with, but last night  decided to have a go at something. After rifling through my scraps I came up with this little guy (such a great use of a few inches of felt!) although I didn't have all of the supplies to hand, so he's far from perfect and has 'Sharpied' eyes rather than seed beads or embroidery. Look how tiny he is next to a standard cotton reel.

There is a matchbox bed and knitted blanket for him in the book but I decided to make him a little no-sew sleeping bag instead, using DPNs. Then I hid him inside D's bag with a note - I wonder whether he'll find it today at work... and what he'll make of it if he does!
This little dog and accessories may be next on the list! Isn't he cute?

The book is called Microcrafts: Tiny Treasures to Make and Share and would make a lovely gift for someone crafty, or just for yourself! It is hardcover and has beautiful pages - I've found it is quite nice to just flick through (which everyone visiting the Cwtch has been doing too) as well as containing some incredibly cute projects.
I'm having trouble with my collage, so I'll leave you with this link to take a virtual tour of the book and hope that it works!

Little Miss is asleep so now is my chance to take a look at the other WIPs at Tami's blog
I hope you enjoy the rest of your day

  1. I adore tiny things (or massively giant things), so that book looks great, and the little bear is so cute!

I think a more muted colour for the stripe study shawl is a good plan to really show off the beautiful contrast yarn. Have a great time at the show this weekend (I was going to go, but decided that it would not be good for my stash-reduction plans if I did!)

  2. Your tiny bear is so cute!
I agree with pinkundine. A muted shade will be best.

  7. That looks like a cute book! Your teeny tiny bear is very cute :)

I love the two yarns for your shawl but I agree with you that together they don't work so well. Will look forward to seeing what you get from Ally Pally - just wish I wasn't so far away, I'd have loved a yarny trip :(

  8. Oh your puffs for the bee keeper's quilt are adorable! They make me want to knit this pattern! I've seen it all over but it makes me feel stressed out just looking at it. I love the one-a-day idea and your collection of colors!

  9. I think you have made the right decision about the shawl. The gorgeous yarns would be lost on it. Give the garter stitch a chance. I never like it on the needles but once it is off the needles it flows nicely and has a homely soft feeling to it. When it is pulled taught I agree it doesnt look quite right. Enjoy the weekend xx

  10. I've made a few mini crocheted things and it was a lot of fun. I like your little ted and his sleeping bag, very cute! That book looks right up my street although my sewing skills are a little dubious. I like the look of the garter stitch, but agree with you on the busy colours....ah, well you will hav to find another lovely project to make with it and buy some more yarn, poor you ;-)

  12. That purply yarn is great, but you're quite right - the shawl needs solid colors :-)

  13. I always feel the same about garter stitch whilst knitting it but do love it once it's off the needles. The book looks cool but would be lost on me as I am far too clumsy for all that teensy tiny stitching! Such a cute teddy though.

  19. I agree that grey would be a better match for the red. Stripe Study is a fun mindless knit. I have worked on mine on and off through the summer. The little bear is adorable! Little projects are so much fun and instantly rewarding. I can just picture some of those cute miniatures peaking out of a little Christmas stocking!

  23. Oh my gosh - everything is so adorable!!! I know I haven't left you a comment in a while - for some reason our work computers won't open your pictures so I can never see what you've done. I usually forget to check you when I get home with all the craziness of my two kids. But, today I remembered and I'm glad I did - your yarn is so pretty and I'm sure whatever you make will be beautiful and I just love the cute little bears! Thanks for the info on the rabbits too - I'll have to try that at some point! How fun!!
