FO Friday: A little (headwear) ta-dah!

It's been far too long since I posted any "ta-dahs" so yesterday I pulled out the small scrap of remaining Noro from my Boneyard Shawl and settled on a pattern for a headband (my thanks to those who left suggestions/ emailed me after the last post) - Britta Lalena Headwrap/Earwarmer by Elisa McLaughlin.

It's a really nice simple pattern and was finished within a few hours (including a school-run and cooking dinner) although I didn't quite have enough yarn left so a few modifications were necessary - the wide section is shorter than it should be and the narrow piece at the back is longer to compensate.

The pattern suggests wearing it "inside out" for the added textural interest and indeed it does look better worn that way, so the buttons are sewn on the 'wrong' side. I don't intend to block it as the rolled edge also looks better, and you can't see the back section as it's hidden beneath my hair.

Ravelry project notes can be found here

Not the greatest photo - it's surprisingly difficult to take a picture of the top of one's own head - but I really like the headwrap and have already cast on another with the right amount of yarn (baby alpaca and it's delish!) so I can follow the pattern properly.

There will surely be far more exciting Finished Objects over at Tami's AmisThere are more posts to come over the weekend but in the meantime, have a WONDERFUL one! xxx

  1. That's really cute :) I think you're right about not blocking it, I like the rolled edges. I tried taking a picture of myself in a hat, which was hard enough, so I think you did a good job of top-of-head photo-taking!

  4. I like it just as it is - quick projects are great but suspect at my slow knitting rate would take longer than a few hours.

  5. Looks great Sarah! I've tried making a couple of this style of hairband now and they really don't suit me at all :(

As for what I'm doing after the ripple - I've got another blanket on the go for Katherine already and I'd really like to start a Summer Garden, but August is looming so it will probably be my shawl for the Shawl for the Fall Group.

  9. Very cute, seems odd to wear it inside out, why don't they just change which side they say is the right and wrong side?

  13. Thanks for all your lovely comments :)

I've actually just cast off the second one which is really soft and smooshy and yum, although maybe a bit plain to look at - I'll post that one over the weekend when the buttons are on.

@Sandy - oh dear, I think my wording came out wrong, as the pattern actually says it's reversible but that the purl side is the designer's preference. I drafted my post last night and can see how it could sound like the pattern was odd *bag*
