WIP Wednesday (22/6/11) - Grannies of Joy

After last week's sorrowful tale of knitting, today's 'Work In Progress' is all together more joyful. It's a shame it's overcast today as you can't see the colours so well, but since starting it last Wednesday...
...71 squares and counting!

I planned to make 100 and then a fairly wide border, but I'm not sure whether 100 will be enough, so I'm going to see how it goes. Laying them out like this, I realise the hardest thing will be deciding the order to attach them together. And that I'm not that fond of red.
Nothing else has had any attention this week so that's it from me. If you'd like to see what others are up to, take a peek at the links at Tami's Amis.

  1. So colourful! Those pictures have really cheered me up this morning, as all I have to look at out of my window is grey clouds.

I think the red works on the inner rounds of the squares - it's the squares where red is the final border colour that don't seem to quite match the others.

  15. Wow, I love this! I really wish I could master crochet just so I could make a granny square blanket, but sadly I have tried and failed. However, beautiful work like this really inspires me to try again. I adore how colourful it is!

  19. It's lovely! It reminds me of that jewelry that looks like hundreds of tiny plastic flowers in a little case. Wish I knew what that was called :/

your grannies are looking terrific and so colourful, I love them and the red ones look absolutely awesome and make those squares pop!

I read your disaster story, oh my, but the pattern and the yarn, I love them! I'm wondering if my knitting skills are up to that pattern yet, I'm not sure but I want to try!
    Have a happy friday!

  25. Thanks for all the lovely comments!

@wypad - It's actually going to be for our home - we moved in 1.5 years ago and did the basics (it's a big boxy new style house and devoid of much character), it could do with being more homely and having more of "us" in the rooms, so I have a few things planned to make it nicer here :)

I've actually been having some time off it the last couple of days - catching up with other things. And now I'm missing it - so I'll be back to it tomorrow!

@Alice - you are a GREAT knitter and could definitely make that pattern! I haven't even attempted a sock yet and you're a sock-master! You could definitely do it!!!
