So we are almost at the end of Knitting and Crochet Blog Week and what a fun week I'm having. I'm totally enjoying taking part - the best bit has been finding so many great voices I'd love to hear more of (an updated Blogroll has been published as a new page and there are even more to come) and I've found it really interesting to have specific things to write about each day.
I will admit, when I looked through the list of topics Day 6 jumped out immediately - it's the one I haven't had to think about at all, so here we go.
Today's topic: Is there a pattern or skill that you don’t yet feel ready to tackle but which you hope to (or think you can only dream of) tackling in the future, near or distant? Is there a skill or project that makes your mind boggle at the sheer time, dedication and mastery of the craft? Maybe the skill or pattern is one that you don’t even personally want to make but can stand back and admire those that do. Maybe it is something you think you will never be bothered to actually make but can admire the result of those that have.
The answer to this is easy and I'll start by showing you my inspiration

If you haven't already, I'd recommend you click on the picture to see a larger view. I think it needs to be as big as possible to really appreciate all the different blankets and their individual and collective beauty.
*sigh*
What exactly is it that I love about it? Well, it's partly the way the patterns - which in themselves mostly seem quite simplistic - combine to create something whose whole is far greater than the sum of its parts, and also the fabulous combination of vibrant colours used. They look so completely inviting and, well, so very very cwtchy (which can be translated as 'snuggly' in this context).
At the moment I don't know how to crochet - I do just about know where to start, but as for following a pattern and all the abbreviations, it's completely beyond me - but every time I look at this picture (which is often) I feel completely inspired to learn. I WILL learn. And I will make a blanket - maybe not such a big one to start with, but I will.
I ordered a large pack of Stylecraft DK, the yarn Lucy from Attic 24 previously recommended, weeeeeeks ago and am still waiting for it to come (can you believe these packs are now so popular there is a waiting list!!!!) so I am having to be very patient! It's not something that comes naturally to me, but for once I'm enjoying the anticipation and the fantasy that I may be able to make something lovely with it - the reality is likely to be a lot of frustration as I learn, but I'm really looking forward to it.

ReplyDeleteYou already know how much I love Lucy and Attic24! You are such a fabulous knitter Sarah that I bet once you get that crochet hook in your hand there will be no stopping you. Honestly, if I can do it you can too. Be warned though, it's a slippery slope to a house full of rainbow yarn.

I love crochet, its easy to pick up and put down again, and its really quick to make nice felted bowls (still prefer knitting though!)
